First: Pre-Wedding Conversations

We require 3-4 pre-wedding conversations (not counseling). Each session is 75-90 minutes, usually on weeknights or Sunday afternoons. Both Scott and Vicki participate in these conversations, and the conversations usually occur within 90 days of the wedding date.

The first meeting must be in our home. Subsequent meetings might be available by Zoom, but that's not promised. Topics include faith in marriage, the need for financial planning, romance and intimacy, relating to family and friends, and communication. We use a simple diagnostic at the first session to set up future conversations.

We provide the couple with three books and require reading of Dr. Gary Chapman's The Five Love Languages before the first meeting. The other two books are for reference, and reading is not required.

We will finish up all sessions with an email detailing our observations, but there won't be any surprises. We will have talked it all over.

Cost: $450. At least 50% ($225 is due at the first session.)

Note: Outside of any travel expenses, there's no additional fee for Scott to officiate your service. Read below.

Your Wedding Service is your service. We will provide a sample Order of Worship and sample vows, which are just guidelines. There are some non-negotiables, but there's lots of wiggle room for your own personal touches. Secular music? We don't care as long as it's tasteful. Scott will write your service based on your general direction, and it will be very personal, creative, and mixed with humor with a clear message of the supernatural seriousness of what we are doing. 

Cost: Nothing.

However: Outside of the Columbia, SC area, we require all travel expenses, including hotel, meal reimbursement, and travel. Travel by car equals total miles x the current IRS mileage rate.

We are sometimes asked to meet with couples for Pre-Wedding Conversations, knowing another pastor or minister will perform the service. As time allows, we are more than happy to help. We will work with the designated officiant to let him, or her know we have met.

Cost: $500. Due in full at the first meeting.

• Have a (one - not a committee) wedding planner to help with all your logistics. Brides and wedding party members should not act as their own wedding planners. It can lead to chaos and confusion.
• Keep it simple. The more moving parts in a wedding service, the more there is a risk that something will go wonky.
• Children are awesome. Babies and Toddlers are awfully cute but expect the unexpected.
• From the time the service begins until it ends, the officiant - not the photographer or videographer - is in charge. An officiant is a person who performs - start to finish - a religious service or ceremony.
• Just ask. Scott doesn't mind praying at your rehearsal dinner or reception.
